General hardware / Re: Power Supply Question

That is 100% math theory correct on paper.

Once you get your lights, you'll discover that the output is non-linear. Plan for 100% but reality will usually be less consumption than that.

Try it, you'll see what I mean.

Enhancement Requests / Re: Updates To Manual
« on: March 12, 2018, 12:33:29 PM »
The User Manual is well over a year out of date. There's a group of authors working on getting it up to date. It is a Sisyphean task as the cycle to update the manual is much longer than the software update cycle.

While there is a great user interest in keeping the manual as a PDF, the more effective way is going to be to move the manual to a Wiki type format that can have instant updates.

More info to come soon!

As one one of the Admins on this forum, I can tell you that I have personally cleaned up space on the attachments by deleting the largest attachments on occasion.

At one point, this Web-Host and account was also used for the xLights releases. When the disk space consumption was full, the xLights download page would go offline as there was not enough room for the log files for the website.

Now that Sean has moved the xLights page to it's own account, the Forum here should be able to accommodate long term attachments. Many were non-useful to anyone but the uploader and a developer for help.  No need to keep those around. Sure a few screenshots got caught in the crossfire.

User Manual / Re: Bad wiki link

Fixed! Thanks Jim.

It will be 1-2 weeks. My guess is closer to two weeks. There were some sessions where the record didn't happen so the presenters will re-record those at home and send those to Sean for aggregation.

General Software / Re: Matrix with E682 San Devices

Here the way I do it.

Create model #2 and give it a non-conflicting start channel. Note what the Universe / Channel will be in xLights.
Set the controller output to use that same Universe/Start channel on the output you'll use for that model.

If xLights says absolute channel 5192 is Universe 14, channel 6, then set output #13 to start on Universe 14, channel #6.

I know there are other ways to do it, but that's the way I do it.

You could do that very easily, but time consuming with a single picture.

First create the picture of the light blue box with the purple/blue innards.
The box should be a rectangle the full width of your tree.

Set your model to have at least 5 layers.  Picture effect with the Vector movement option.

Set the start position/end positions to get the alternating movement.

You will need to use the Layer Settings, buffer area to get those pictures to be on the desired areas of the model.

Layer 1 = 0-20%
Layer 2 = 21-39%
Layer 3 = 40-59%
Layer 4 = 60-79%
Layer 5 = 80-100%

For ease of scaling, draw the image you want to exact pixel count dimensions.

Correct. That option is there for text.  It's Monday and I've only had one cup of coffee.

What happened to the [   ] C button on Pictures?  You used to be able to check that box and the image would center and stop once the movement was complete.

This is not much different than the included song timing marks that come with every install. Just a helper to get started. This application should be standalone with no Internet connection needed IMHO.

There are MANY vendors for models, not just James. Granted the profits may increase by us including models, this is not to help the vendors, but to help the users.

The custom models will get the shapes correct. It will be up to the users to plug in the pixels in that exact order, or renumber them to match how they want to plug them in.

Sean, please call them MODELS.  All references in the application and the documentation is for MODELS.

That is exactly what the Marquee effect is for.

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Re: Color wipe over existing effects
« on: January 04, 2017, 01:35:21 PM »
I often will put an effect on a model then remove the effect.
The effect will sometimes show on the single model in that is also part of the model group until I re-render.

This is just one small example of where a manual render mode would be great.

Just as we often select a small portion of a sequence to play. I really only need to render that small section I'm working on as well.  How bout a quick render option where +X and -X seconds are rendered on either side of the selected effect.

Those upstairs windows are begging to be outlined in pixels too. Ditto for the downstairs windows.
