Do You Need Help? Post it here / Rotating Wreath in Layout
« on: November 02, 2019, 11:55:28 AM »
Hey guys,

Was wondering if there was a way in layout view to simply rotate and / or flip 180 degrees a wreath but also by flipping it in layout that it also follows suit with the wiring or shifting the pixels as well? So if Pixels 1 is at the bottom, and you rotate it 90 degrees, pixel 1 is now at 3 oclock.

Thanks!

Shared Effect Presets / Help Making an Effect
« on: August 09, 2018, 03:30:04 PM »
I have this idea for an effect and was wondering if anyone would be able to help me figure out how to do it (I'm assuming it's something with layer blending but I can't figure it out).

Basically, have the "Circles" effect going where there's 1 circle that's large and moving around the entire house. Everything that's outside of the circle is black and what you see inside the circle is the entire house doing an effect. So you are peeking in on what is going on underneath... kinda like there's a party going on and you can only see it through the circle.... if that makes sense?

Thanks for your help!

Babybear - I'm going to look into that marine grade jell! I was wondering about something like that...

I also wasn't going to post again too early because I didn't want to put my foot in my mouth, but looking at the tree was just getting frustrating, so on the 20th I ended up switching out the e682 for the F16V3. Instantly no flickering. But, I knew we were about to get about 5" of rain over the next 3 days so I figured that would be the true test. Still not flickering. I guess in this situation, it really was the controller. To be clear, I didn't undo any 3 core connections from the tree to controller or at the controller itself, I just unhooked all the green connectors at the e682, ethernet and power and swapped the controller. I wanted to do a true to test to see.

Gotcha. Yea these are all 5v pixels as well. These are 60 pixels per strand and power injecting each strand at the top, individual connections at the bottom running to the e682. Noise flashing seems like a perfect description actually. I guess from what I've tested so far it has gotten worse when running more power to them. I'll try to suss it out more. I wanna figure it out! ha.

Very interesting, I guess I never would have been thinking it could be a controller... my other tree is (well I never really measured but it's gotta be relatively within a foot or so of cable length) hasn't had any issues and is also a e682. The cables are 16 gauge and the controller is right under the tree mounted to the center pole so, again, a guess but no more than 8-10 feet at most.

It's still raining so I can't air out the inside of the box but I'll definitely give it a shot when it stops and maybe that'll work! I'm upgrading my trees from 180 degree 16 strand 3 inch spacing to 180 degree 32 strand 1 inch spacing next year so I'll be a Falcon user from here on out! I appreciate you guys reaching out. Thanks!

haha, well, it's an e682. All of the controllers I'm using are Sandevices currently. HOWEVER, I have purchased 2 of the new Falcon F16v3's for next year, but that's beside the point for this.

Just wondering if any of y’all have run into this and found a more substantial understanding as to what is going on so I can better address the problem.

All of my display works literally perfect, rain or shine except my bigger mega tree. It seems like (could be coincidence I guess?) whenever it rains a lot, most of the strands (10 out of 16) start to just randomly flicker…not all at the same time, and some of them stop and clear up, but at some point usually that many do. However, it’s also only when anything below 100% intensity is being sent, because they’ll flicker up to the full intensity. Sometimes they’ll even do the colors they are supposed to do and then do all kinds of random colors as well before turning off when they are supposed to. I should mention, it's not a constant flicker as if there's Xlights data being sent as well as FPP data sending at the same time, it's much more subtle than that. This flickering is happening once every 5 seconds or so to random strands.

I have been able to fix this issue 2 different ways.
1. Cutting the connector off at the controller end and just redoing the connection with the same connector and it works. No idea why - connections were dry as a bone
2. Replacing the first pixel - the connections here were dry as well
But the fact that either of these solutions work is why I’m confused.

Are the actual pixels themselves getting wet and sending bad data down the line? Did I just get a bad batch of (600 ish) waterproofed pixels? (SIDE NOTE) So the only odd thing I have found to all of this when trying to really troubleshoot this on my own, is whenever I’ve replaced the first pixel, ON OCCASION, I’ll have made the connection of the first pixel to the second pixel already, and then I’ll connect the + - Data and it’ll still flicker… BUT then on the IN side of the pixel from the controller, I’ll unhook the just power, not - or data and the flickering stops. That really confuses me because I feel like this is a data problem.

Is it a waterproofing issue? Here's how I make the connections:
Both at the pixel end and the connector end from the wire, I always solder everything, then do heat shrink on the individual connections (+ - data) as well as a big one that covers all the individual connections. So I’m not sure if it’s a waterproofing issue at these connections.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated! Hope everyone's displays are going well!

This has been resolved... here's what we (with Jim's help) did to fix it in case someone else has this issue.

I directly hooked the e682 up to my PC, (NO ROUTER, NO SWITCHES) disabled the Wireless, set the LAN to DHCP (well, it already). I rebooted the computer so it got the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address. Then tried Override 4 on the controller but still nothing when I went to 169.254.74.73 on a web browser. So I did Override 1 then Override 4. Then I tried to find it on the web browser but again, still nothing. So I randomly tried Override 1, then 6, then 4, and it worked. why? I have no idea. But it did, and it’s acting completely normal. I then changed the IP, changed all the config settings, and hooked it back into my normal network switch and it's running great, just like the others.

Typically you should only have to do override 4 in this situation. Not really sure why this controller was acting like this but hey, it's working now...

I've emailed Jim, but I know it's a busy season right now so not sure how long it would take for him to get back to me on this one...

I received the controller from Jim a few months ago, already with Version 5 firmware on it, and changed the IP, configured it, all that stuff. Everything was great. I just went to set it up outside today, hooked it up, and as soon as I powered it on, I noticed the green light was flashing really fast, like it was in a test mode. It's controlling a megatree, and only 4 strips seemed to be "obeying" if you will, that test mode, which means my config must have been erased as well. No big deal. However, I go to type in the IP to Chrome and it won't pull it up. But if I search in the Terminal for all IP's on my network, the IP shows up... it just won't pull up on a browser.

I tried a different power supply (and metered it), checked fuses,  I tried a different switch, direct connection to the computer, different ethernet cables (even made 2 brand new ones)... but it's something with the controller in that it's booting up in a test mode. I know I can hold program down and force a temp IP address... I've done that a few times, but that still won't allow me to gain access to the controller through the web browser... is there any kind of hard reset? Any ideas? I've done about everything I know to do.

General Software / Re: I'm experiencing alot of lag using xscheduler
« on: November 07, 2017, 08:55:10 AM »
If you are running unicast I bet that's it. Again, not being familiar with xscheduler, in FPP you can just uncheck the controllers / channels that aren't hooked up and it works without hooking the controllers in to the network. If there's a way to do that in the xscheduler easily you can try that.

I'm not familiar with xscheduler but if it runs like FPP and you are running Unicast, you'll have lag in the system unless all controllers are hooked into the network and are turned on. Just learned this recently... it would run fine straight out of Xlights

Ha, yea these panels are really bright. They are outdoor panels so 5500 nits compared to the indoor panels which vary from 1000-1500 nits. I was just buying them for the added waterproof rating on the front of them... I doubt they would ever run anywhere close to full brightness, it's pretty blinding.

I'm definitely glad you were able to reproduce the issue and then figure out a solution, but I wish it was a little easier than having to rewrite other aspects of the software to compensate for other panels. I also wish I knew more about figuring this out, let me know if I can do anything to help!

Question about this... figured instead of making all of these 5mm panels go to waste that I have (even though they refunded me my money on them)... even with a correctly working Octoscroller, it's just the pixel mapping on these 5mm panels that is all over the place. Is there a way to remap the pixels within the Matrix in the Layout? (I've seen a few forums on submodels / subbuffers but I don't think that's what I"m looking for) or would I have to create a custom model?... (I'm aware, this will probably take forever)

You guys are really smart. I don't know how you know some of this stuff. At some point hopefully I'll learn everything.
