Yes sir, Description

Not sure how I missed that.

Thanks a bunch Keith especially for your patience.

I agree. The system might change/evolve and that is OK.
The memory seems not so accurate anymore.

Thanks again

Thanks Jim, my problem really is just having to walk away and come back a couple of times. So I did not remember what sizes those flakes or stars were. I have figured them out so should be ok from here.

I see we can export the models (csv) and there is a lot of info in that file. I just added a column and will insert the vendor and model there.

Over my career I have been involved with many inventory/tooling number/shelf location types of systems. For the props I intend to just use simple numbers. What ever number is next will be used. Then I can do a layout and show controller-props, port assignments etc. Also numbers will be placed on the pigtails and corresponding cables assuming no changes to that prop.
At least that is my intention unless someone can explain a simpler way to play.

Thank you for the help

I am sure I saw this in a video somewhere but unable to locate it.

Is there a place to add the manufacturer name and their model number?

I was goofy enough to change the model names provided on the downloads to a descriptor type.

ie: flake-1, flake-2, Mega-Star, MiniTree-1, arch-left, arch-right

What is the common practice to keep track.
Sorry if this is a simpleton question. Due to family health issues, again, I had to walk away from this hobby and now trying to get back at it.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: 12-26
I know I have different size snow flakes and stars and I am working on a parts list of things to buy. I have figured out most of it and have started an excel sheet to store the info.
I could have sworn there was a place in xlights layout to add this data to the props. Maybe not, it has been around a year since last working with this.

Again, thanks for any help pointing me in the right direction.

Yes sir there is an indent and I see what your point is on this. I had to look at it harder to see it. It just was not obvious to me.
Option to change the view background color cells on opened groups would be nice.

You can ignore this request of indent.

Thanks

I understand it is impossible to please everyone and I think you guys are doing an excellent job. This is just a suggestion and if you find it something to be benefit, we would like to see it.

Re-reading my post I see I did not clearly convey my thoughts. Apologies.

As you can see in my attachment I have a group of 8 snowflakes. When the group is opened each snow flake is left justified. While the sub models and layers of the "Flake-8" appear to have a single step indent when opened. I was thinking the 8 snowflakes would have a single step indent and when one was opened the layers and sub models would have another single step indent.

The other option I was thinking of that would save the real screen space is a background color change of the models within a group when opened.

Would it be possible to indent the sub models, strands etc when opening a group? I ask because it would easily identify the end of these Sub entities when more than one group has been opened.
Perhaps a color shade shift of the group and its sub entities that is open.

Just thinking out loud. You guys are doing an amazing job, Thanks

OK, I figured it out. I went to the models "Model Data" in the Layout properties. I change the horizontal number and it appears to be good.

Today I finally figured out the buffer for this prop appears to be offset to the right. The handles are wide on the right and the center rotation handle is also offset. I tried another download today of the same prop and it too is offset. My other stars / props are not offset but centered. I am assuming the cell count can be changed to tighten up the right side. I open the node layout and there are 11 extra blank cells on the right side.
I clicked on the count of 95 across to change it to 84 with no success with the model both locked and unlocked. I assume I am doing something wrong.

I had the machine shut down for several hours today, cleared the cache, deleted history and restarted. It seems to be working now.
Thanks for the replies.

I am guessing my issue is with my machine and does not reflect a change to xLights web site.
When I click on the link or type in xLights.org it downloads the page instead of opening. Google search found one page were others have had similar issues in the past. The fix detailed did not help.
Has anyone been through this and found a solution?

Thanks
Mark

Excellent, thanks a bunch.

Thanks Keith. I was able to do that.

So to be clear, does this folder structure follow safe protocol:

Documents\xLight Shows\Christmas\2019

or should I drop the 2019 and just label the sequences: song-year
I ask because a year or two down the road I assume the models and layout will change

I am sure you have answered this a million times and I appreciate your patience with me.

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Export effect presets to new HD / folder
« on: February 11, 2019, 07:11:54 PM »
I am currently on 2019-11. Is there a single file containing the effect presets that can be moved to my new folder? OR, can I point the program to look in the old location?

My old HD was almost full. I used Acronis to clone drive to larger SSD. I watched Keith's 2019 beginners course because  I only got started last year before things changed forcing me to sit out for a while.
In the video it was recommended to use a single show folder an put everything in it. My old files were spread over three different folders. So to start fresh I made a folder in Documents. Rebuilt the layout etc. If this approach is wrong using My Documents instead of a folder inside of the c:\xlights, please advise. I am a bit confused.

Thanks a bunch
Mark

OK, I added a mega tree so it was the same size at the coarser res of 370. There did not appear to be a drastic enough difference with both 2 color spiral or 3 color fan effects to say yes or no. So I guess logic would dictate we go no.

Perhaps with only using half of the original preview the relative resolution stays the same regardless of resize.
