Hey Mike,
GOOD IDEA!!  I didn't think of that.

Thank You!!!

Hello,
I am trying to find a way to quickly hang props on my brick house that will allow me to just snap the PVC pipe 'frame' (which has the props zip tied to the PVC frame), then just snap loose at the end of the Christmas season.

Last year, I ordered a bag of 50 plastic C clips that I could screw into the brick.  I painted then the same color as the brick, so they were almost unnoticeable.  They worked well, except that they broke when I removed the props.  They were cheap plastic and too fragile. (1/2 thin walled PVC pipe was used).

Does anyone know of a better "C-clip" that can be mounted using a prop 'snap-in' ?

Sorry for the late response!!  That is a great idea, too!!  I like the idea of no network cables in the yard!

Thanks!

General hardware / Interactive motion sensor pixels
« on: July 05, 2024, 08:31:46 AM »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has considered a Halloween "prop" of sidewalk/pathway lights that interact with motion of walking and respond with the pixels following the individual as he/she walks up the sidewalk to the house.

I've been running xlights for about 4 years and have pretty much all the pixels and controllers I need (and then some!)

So, I thought about a Halloween show starting with lights that "eerily" follow a person as they walk.

I recall many years ago at a science fair that each stair in the staircase would light up as you neared each step.  It wasn't a "contact step" scenario, but instead a proximity sensor.  I saw no sensors on each step, but something at the top of the stairs.  Any ideas???  Is it possible?

Wow!  Thank you Gilrock, for the quick and definitive response!  I appreciate it.  I'll start now reconfiguring and 'pocket' the savings of buying more Pi's!   8)

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Best pratice for Pi and controllers
« on: July 30, 2023, 05:04:34 PM »
Hi Sean,

I have had my setup for about 5 years now.  I have always used 1 Pi to each Sandevices controller.

If I recall correctly, I have seen some hobbyists using a single Pi 4 running multiple controllers using a network hub.  I can see the cost savings in a single Pi 4 configuration, but is it better to have 1 Pi responsible for say 4 E6804s and 2 E682's, (with a backup Pi as a backup) or should the workload be divided up into a Pi per controller?  Just curious, as I'm going over all hardware to have the best configuration.  An overview of my show is:  1 3600 pixel megatree, 3 singing faces, 4 minitrees, 4 windows, a roofline a pathway 4 arches and a few stars.  I hope this paints a decent picture for you.  Thanks in advance!

Thanks Daryl!   I hope on Zoom and had a discussion with 3 guys at the same time and they explained how to accomplish what I'm trying to do.  THANKS for your tip!!

And I don't know whaere to start.  I have used pixel arches for a few years, but I would like to upgrade them.

I don't know if I use a "submodel" or a second model and how do I design it in xlights?

Thanks to everyone that has gotten me this far in my Christmas show!!  Getting a bigger audience every year.

I'm loving this hobby!

Thanks to all.  I apologize for not explaining my question very well. ;D

Ok, so just to make sure....  I have power injection theoughout my whole display and all is good from that perspective, I just want to make absolutely sure that I can tie the grounds together between my 5 volt power supply and my 12 volt power supply.  This way the controller is running on 5 volts and all my pixels are running on 12 volts but 'everybody sees the same common ground. The reason I do this is because I have noticed that the controller runs cooler on 5 volts.

Hi everyone!!  The holiday is near!

My issue is I can't seem to confirm a particular wiring procedure for my display setup.  I want to use a 5 volt power supply for my E6804 (it runs much cooler) but my pixels are 12 volts, so I am using a 12 volt PS to run them.  I've read several articles about tying grounds together of multiple PS's (for stable DATA) but separate the Positive line from the 2 PS's.  Do I also do that in my configuration, by tying the grounds only of the 5 volt AND 12 volt PS's together??

Thanks to anyone who can confirm this for me.  It's too close to the holidays to burn anything up!  LOL

Ahh Yes!!  Sometimes I run the different areas together.  Thanks, Sean!!  I'll do that......

Hello again!  I am still trying to add projector control to my show (for over two years) and I can't seem to get ON OFF control to work.  I even bought a new Hitachi short thro projector (was a dell before).  It has an RS-232 control port. I purchased a null modem cable (USB from Pi) to the port on the Projector.  I put a lead-in with ON the 60 second pause for warm up, then the sequence/show, the in lead-out the OFF for cool down.

No luck.  If I MANUALLY turn on the projector, it starts the video, but wont shut down.  I have added the projector settings on the Pi and included my entry in the Projector control via SSH and saved it.

Can you tell me what I missed or what I did wrong?  I have looked over the hex codes several times and they look fine. (See attached)

Excellent!!  Thank you and the rest ofprogrammers!!

UPDATE!  Earlier in my post, I mentioned that I could only see HALF of my PREVIEW window, so I assumed that I only had one window call DEFAULT.  I knew thaI never made more than on view and that window was for people who needed different views for their show.

After you pointed out this preview window, I realized that I was not seeing the drop down arrow in order to see other views!!!  Still, it didn't click until last night that all of those conflicts were from the UNNASSIGNED group, which I ignored, BECAUSE I had never SET UP an "unassigned group!!  DUH!  I looked in there and the were all these models, so I deleted all and PRESTO, the warnings in CHECK SEQUENCE were all gone!!

Thank you @Gilrock for pointing the window to me.

I LOVE this program so much that I donated to its cause a couple days ago.

Thank you @Keithsw and your team for all the work you have done and ALL the videos to the new, old and mentally challenged (like me) folks out there!
