January Poll had Seminar: 31, Webinar 43

Totals Update: Feb 7.
Seminar: 4
Webinar: 16

Store is Open for Webinar/Seminar for xLights two day Las Vegas class.
http://www.nutcracker123.com/store

Webinar is $40 , you will also receive a DVD of the 16 hours of classes.
Seminar is $200, you will receive a DVD and also receive of of Lilia Meighan's sequences free for attending.

Webinar people should download zoom client from www.zoom.us. This will allow you to watch the two days. Webinar people will be sent an email with the url and password to join sat morning, 8am local.

At the Expo I was asked by numerous people if we could offer an in depth two day seminar on xLights.

I have done the work (Created a LLC company, got business license, setup FEID, setup unemployment taxes, talked to the tax board, blah, blah).

So yes, we can do this.

Here is the plan

I will write the course material, somewhere around 50-100 pages. This material will be posted after the Seminar on this web page. Yeah!, we will have a complete user manual.

There will be approx 14-16 hours of classroom time. I will start with a presentation, every student will have a laptop  and will then go through the same material they just saw. I think it will be 10 hours of lectures, 6 hours of hands on.

The room will have both RGB and single channel props. We will go over using both. Both models and sequencing.

The first draft of the agenda.

First day (Prob 8am-5pm)
Installation of xLights. Everyone will get a usb drive with all classroom exercises.
Setup tab. Talk about various hardware controllers. Talk about LOR hardware
Discussion of various hardware interfaces and how they work with xLights.
Using TEST to check hardware we just connected

Importing data, special attention will be given to importing LOR sequences. We will show importing HLS, LSP, Vixen.
Creating models for a house. How to create the models correctly for your house (Bring picture of your house on your laptop).
Marking Up songs using Vamp plugins, manual markups, timing from excel (some people pull timing marks out of LOR lms files, for example).
How to use Views
How to create custom models. We will all create a custom model for a AC prop and a RGB prop.
How to use the "Create Random Effects".

During this first day a Buffet will be brought into the room (it is included in registration price, $30 cost from hotel)
This will allow us to have a working lunch.

Second Day
Go through all 34 effects. For each effect, show what the sliders and check boxes do
Learn how to use Palettes
Learn how effect layers work and how to choose the layering method (there are 12 choices)
We should have a sequence working and driving the lights.

Bring in your mp3 file and use the methods you have learned to do the first pass of completely sequencing this song.
After 1 hour, we will then discuss how you share sequences with other users. You have the option of sharing your sequences with others. We will cover what you need to do if their model layout does not match yours.
We will go over setting up xLights as your show player. Scheduler, Playlist, movies and sound files. We will touch on the custom scripting that allows sending RDS values to your FM transmitter.
We will go over the process of setting up a pi player and running the same show.
We are now in teh afternoon on teh second day. We may split off and offer classes on setting up singing faces, using papagayo. The rest of the group will continue to use the skills they learned to sequence more songs.

I have confirmed that Gil Jones, Steve Giron and Dave Pitts will be at this seminar. Each will teach for a couple of hours. I will be the prime presenter for the rest of the material.

I am targeting $200 for the 2 day seminar.

I need to pay 25% of the total costs to the hotel in the next few weeks. I need to first ask for interest in this 2 day event.

Please reply to this thread with
#of spots you want.

I can look for other dates (though, you normally book this stuff like 6 months in advance).

So if you cant attend this weekend, respond with dates either +/- 1 week. I am willing to look at week days,

I have two hotels tentatively

Wifi free
The issue is on satruday another party has the room from 4pm on. I really want to be able to go later into teh evening. The other party may cancel, lets hope.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g33388-d111562-Reviews-Renaissance_Denver_Hotel-Denver_Colorado.html
Room $189/nt. I can get discounted rates of $119/nt but i am responsible for 90% of that if the people dont show up.
Parking $15/day
Wifi $10/day
Room is available all night.

I continue to look for other hotels.

I am hoping for the Holiday Inn, much less money for each of you.

So, if interested, please respond to this thread

thanks
sean

I have a work requirement that timeframe so wouldn't be able to attend.   I'm with lightaholic; would be willing to pay for access to videos & the xlights manual.

THIS IS GREAT!!!!!

Wow, would really like to be there.  Thinking, thinking, how could I make this?  It doesn't look realistic, but I'm not giving up that easy.  Like others said, I too would be very interested in the video & manual, if I can't make it in person.

Sorry, I won't be there... for some of us who've been around xlights for a while, there isn't enough additional value.  But its still a great idea and I hope its a huge success.  I didn't see it posted to the other forums yet... do you plan to do so?

Another topic area...  "Using Nutcracker to control non-RGB:  AC super-strings, AC strings with whole-house effects, Matrix, and foggers"

Great idea, but I'm with Steve G.  As a long time xlights/nutcracker user, I don't need the class, but I realize that a lot of other folks do need it especially all those new LOR converts.

I would love to attend but my schedule is conflicted. I would be willing to pay for a video of the seminar.  Is this possible with Xlights -"Using Nutcracker to control non-RGB:  AC super-strings, AC strings with whole-house effects, Matrix, and foggers"

If this was an annual event, I'd place this above the Academy and the Expo for my 2016 plans!  ;D

Announcing the "Falcon/Nutcracker 2016 Conference!"

maybe another day (or another track) for developers interested in building, testing, and developing new effects and features.  ??

and what about a track for the artist-types to develop/collaborate on new sequences???

I am very interested.. but after just spending $1500 to go to Texas, I am on board with buying the manual and video's for $100.. Not that I don't want to go to Colorado.. just that would be a $1000 less for lights this year.. and could watch learn and re-watch at my own pace.

If this may work, let me know when/who to paypal the $$

Thanks

This was unplanned.  We had folks at the Expo pushing for us to offer this.  I'm not sure there will be enough interest to pull it off this short notice.

Who's going to be the master sequencer artist type?  I'm more of a wait till the last minute and throw something together type of sequencer. :)
