How to move 2014 layout to 2015
« on: September 06, 2015, 04:19:50 AM »
I have changed a few elements for  2015 and want to use the 2014 basic songs and elements.  How do I get last years elements to to exist in a new larger show.  Last year I converted form Vixen to x-lights for Pixels then  ran them.  I did not make a complete preview of the Vixen elements.  Now after moving to X-lights 4 and adding more pixels I can not get a view of what is on any channels but the ones that I made for the pixels  last year.  Is there any way to fix the preview.

Are you using the Same show and media directory that you used  last year ?

And if so ,  for your new stuff, you have added a model , ticked the is part of my display etc.
Is it part of a group and is the group selected .... Edit groups from the layout tab ?
What sort of model is this ?
Clicked render all ?

A description of what you have done so far and an image ion your sequncer tab and layout tab will help..

I have used almost all the same elements with the same channels in a new file with almost the same names and positions. The new elements are all  placed at the end of the file before the final element for each years program.   I removed two elements and re assigned the channels to existing ones making them have two channels instead of one.   The names are almost the same between layouts.  I have tried to  import the fseq  files and get the no saved import file error.  I even tried to import the Vixen+ files but that fails also.  It appears the Vixen+ file structure is now different then the Vixen 2 so it will not back convert to use the Vixen+ preview.  The new layout is complete with models and working preview.

You should be able to just open up your old sequence XML files and they will convert to the new version.  From your description I can't tell if you're trying to completely convert to xLights or you're still trying to work in Vixen.  I know nothing about a "no saved import file error".  We didn't use fseq files in xLights last year so where are you getting those files?  Don't try to use old FPP files.  When you say you can't get any new pixels to show up are you talking about data you tried to import from Vixen?  Cause if it's pure xLights you should just be able to sequence them.

I converted all my last years sequences to the new format.  They were Vixen + files with only the pixels added in x-lights then I used x-lights to run the show.  Now I want to change some things.  I build a base file of nearly identical channels.  Then I tried to import the original Vixen files into the new layout.  I placed all the files and the profile in that same file as the new layout.  When I import the Vixen + files the left side panel shows all of the new layout channels but the right panel has no choices to match to.   I want to use only Xlights.  I have done several songs in the new layout with no problems.  I must be missing a step.

Are you using "import effects" to do the import.

if so , u need to double click a couple of times in the column on the right hand side before it should show you the Vixen things. (Double click in diff  cells on RHS, as I cant see your setup ) If u are not getting this , can u please post a screen shot of the point where you say "the right side has no choices to match to" to ensure we are on the same page..

And u tried the double clicking ?

If  u are using windows, press screen print key when you are on the xl screen.  Then open a new doc in word and click paste.
It should paste the screen print into the word doc.

Save as a doc file , not docx.
Then when you reply to the post , click the attach, mets Nd other options below , scroll to the saved file and attach.

A good way to take screen shots in the last couple of versions of Windows is to use the snipping tool.  Click start and then in the run/search box type snipping and a link should show up.  Pretty simple to use.  Just drag a window around what you want and snip.  You can even use a pen to circle to highlight items in the snip.

So when you double click (couple of times) where the small error is showing in showing in the light blue cell or in the cell just below , nothing happens ?

You should have got something like what I have attached (mine is an LSP import example)

If so , could you please please zip and post your files ? You will need xlights-* , your sequence xml file and the Vixen input file that you are trying to input .

Are you a member of the facebook  group - cause more  people  look and respond there.

Hello,

I tried the import effects function and could not see anything on the right hand side when double clicking - similar to what you have noticed.

I was however able to import the Vixen file as a data layer , render and play it.
(Via the Sequence, Sequence Settings , Data layer , Import option).

is this how you imported your Vix sequences last year - in which case you can do the same this year and then add anything else you wish. If you actually imported them as effects last year , then you must have an xml file that would have been created.

I am not sure if with the Vix file you have , whether that is good to Import effects from. I opened the file in an xml editor and there was not much xml tagged data in it - see attached - there was a lot of stuff after the tags though.

BTW - I substituted the audio file when testing  it as it is on your F drive..

I used the conversion function form vixen to xlights made the pixel additions  then ran them in xlights for my show I made no preview.
I have discovered that the current Vixen+ profile is not the same structure as V 2.1, and are not interchangeable.  I can use the import function on my 2013 program files.  They will function as expected so  with the minor changes I made between 2013 an 2014 I can salvage most of the sequences for use this year.  Thank you for your help.

I tried an additional import through the settings page.   I use the last years xml file and it imported layers fine.  Then I converted the layers and made some changes and tried to save them.  But when I saved and re opened the file all the original layer data was back showing none of the changes to the converted layers.  What did I do this time.  Seems like when it renders the file it looses the update information.  This makes all the work worthless and does not allow for any changes in the channels or elements form last year.
