I was throwing around the idea of using clear vinyl for the front.  I wan't to build a matrix over 4ft wide, so getting lexan or even plexiglass is just too much.  I found reasonable prices, but shipping, which is freight, is almost $500.

Here is an example: https://www.onlinefabricstore.net/40-gauge-clear-vinyl-.htm?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google+-+PLA+-+Shopping&utm_term=pla&utm_content=xobJDL9pdc|pcrid|57080269693|pkw|pla|pmt|e|&gclid=CP-EuqKfoMoCFdM8gQodhdEIZQ

Would like to get your thoughts, or better yet, what would be an alternative for waterproofing the P10 panels when the matrix is large.

James

I like the idea, I just don't know how it would react with the sun. :-)
Maybe using a 60 Gauge instead.

If you use outdoor P10 you won't need to cover the front, which would make it easier, and the sides and back could be smaller plexiglass, like I did on the top and back of my panel.

For my next panel I am looking at something like this

I'm considering the waterproof p10s. I've already ordered the non waterproof p10s in a pre-sale so I'm not sure if I can change.

I would also like to see what it would look like to join two pieces of lexan and see how noticeable the joint is.

My matrix is going outside but it will be covered (front porch) so I can get away with not being completely waterproof.

I just order a sample of the 40 and the 60 gauge vinyl. If work that will save a lot on my next project.
The waterproof P10 I think are the way to go.

You only need 1/8" material so $500 sounds too  high.  I think I got the 4.5' x 2.5' and the smaller piece for my other panel $65 for both cut to size from a local plastic shop.  You can get a 4'x8' sheet for $175 at home depot but I found their prices to be higher than the plastic shop.  Good luck with trying the outdoor panels.  I'm happy with the 1/8" plastic for protection.

My matrix is going to be bigger than 4x8. I can get a sheet of 4x8 for approximately $100. I found a sheet of 6x8 for $200 (I think), the $500 was for shipping as it was freight.

7x11. This is still in planning. I've ordered the panels, that's about it. I'm throwing around the idea of making it modular, so 3 or 4 main sections that snap in place. Right now, adding a matrix is really the only thing I'm thinking of adding this year, so I've got time.

Good luck with a panel that size.  Mine was already difficult handle.
Went and looked at the deck board this weekend. Man that stuff is heavy. Thinking of using PVC molding instead, but cutting a groove like you did.

Absolutely fantastic effects.  How hard was it to get all those effects done in Nutcracker?  I basically use autogenerate effects at the moment, but are you interested in sharing your sequence effects by any chance?

Shipping on a large sheet can get outrageous, part of that is their insurance factor built in.

If you are interested in the sheet, find out where it comes from first.  Then we can headache some ways to get it to you a lot cheaper, there are trucking companies in that corridor that would love a partial for $100 or so. There are glass carriers, hotshot folks, car haulers that bring pickups (fit in the or on the bed), granite haulers etc.

Tossing a piece of cardboard wrapped plexi or lexan for a reasonable fee would not take a lot of convincing.
