Trying to add the Star Wars song to my show for the last week of the season .... How do you go about doing the light saber action on a pixel tree ?!  I have a24 strand x 50 pixel 360 degree tree.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Dave

I can see the day in a galaxy not too far away where Gil will create something like superstar effects directly inside of Xlights/NC.

For some reason I though the way to get superstar type effects was to use superstar and import them?

And how do you think we represent the effects after they are imported?  I created the Morph, Galaxy, Fan, and Shockwave and Dan got the images and text effect imports working.  So almost everything you can create in SuperStar you can create in xLights.  Plus my effects can do a little bit more than what you can do in SS.

Guys, I am impressed to see what you can do in Xlights/NC. I really was not aware that you had come so far and would love to see how you can create the same effects in NC as in Superstar. i.e the light saber effect from Logan, or similar effects that superstar does.

Here's a post from May that has the YouTube video of a song I did for a Graduation Party and the sequence that created it is attached.  It has the Morph, Fan, Galaxy, and Shockwave effects in it.

Thanks Gil, I learnt a lot by checking out your files and seeing how you applied the layering and morph effects.

I did a XML-based mapping - initially I replaced all of the <element> entries in the original .xml to map into equivalent models my house, but I won't do that again.

I realized about 75% through that it's much easier and more flexible to just initially add <modelGroup> entries to your own xlights_rgbeffects.xml that maps in all of the names of all of the elements in the sequence being imported.

Then you can keep moving your elements through the model groups until you have once that nicely line-up. Can even do that in the UI.

I put a dummy string of lights in all of the model groups. So when it stopped blinking I knew I was done.

PS: This would also be a really cheap way to make import work a little better. Instead of asking entry-by-entry which things to map, just ask a blanket question: "Create model groups for all unknown models"? This gets you up and running immediately with a fully populated sequencer and you can progressively map stuff your models into the modelgroups to have them start blinking.

PS PS: Kudos for who came up with this XML schema. It's really nice being able to interchangeably map an element via name to either a model or model group.

You should have been able to just globally rename all the image paths in the xml file before you opened it like we've stated a few times.  Then render/save and they work.
Hi guys. Your light shows look awesome. Can someone please point me in the right direction. I cant find the info on how to globally rename props. I have tried a few different searches. Thanks John

I was talking about renaming image file paths.  I don't understand what you're asking.  What does globally mean regarding to props?  When you open someone else's sequence and map the effects to your models you get the same result as trying to rename the models in his file.  If your talking about renaming a model in your own setup it modifies the xlights_rgbeffects file but no it doesn't open up every one of your sequences and fix the name.  It will prompt you about the missing model when you open each sequence allowing you to remap it.

Sorry about the confusion. My question should be. How do I globally rename images?
Thanks for your fast response. Will have another look after work.

OK Sorry be a pain again, but like bbayjohn, I do not know how to globally change the images location. I know how to use notepad++ to find and replace, but what do I find and replace?  :-[ Can someone point me to the thread or hold my hand? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Roger
